Women face a number of life circumstances that present challenges with regards to saving adequately for retirement including a longer life expectancy, different life priorities such as being a parent or caregiver that may require time away from the workforce or part-time employment, and lower pay.
Women and Retirement: Facing Challenges in a Recession examines women's retirement risks and preparedness with men. The research finds the Great Recession is dampening the retirement outlook of both women and men, but it has been worse for women.
The research report is based on findings from the 10th Annual Retirement Survey which included more than 3,400 workers. It was conducted between December 2008 and January 2009.
