Things are starting to improve for the employed workers in the US. They are more optimistic about the country and their economic future. However, the impact of the Great Recession on their personal financial security has left a lasting impression. Many bad habits like spending beyond ones means have not rebounded with the economy. Workers are trying to live more debt free and accepting they will probably have to work longer into retirement. They are taking their retirement plans more seriously and more are trying to learn about retirement savings, even if they can’t contribute more to their savings.

The 12th Annual Transamerica Retirement Survey of Workers provides a multi-year trend analysis before, during, and in the wake of the Great Recession. The research report includes demographic segmentation analysis by company size, those offered workplace retirement benefits versus those who are not offered such benefits, generation, household income, educational attainment, and race/ethnicity. It is based on a survey of more than 4,000 workers in 2011.
