TCRS Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary, Expands to Create the Transamerica Institute
Los Angeles – September 20, 2013 – The Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies® (TCRS) is marking 10 years as a leader in retirement research by expanding and forming the Transamerica InstituteSM, including a new division focused on health care, Transamerica Center for Health StudiesSM (TCHS).
“We are proud of the work we have done during the last decade to help American citizens, employers and policymakers better understand retirement, and look forward to continuing these efforts,” said Catherine Collinson, president of TCRS. “Now, we are seeking to bring the same level of clarity in navigating the financial implications of health coverage decisions through the Transamerica Center for Health Studies.”
Similar to TCRS, the Transamerica Center for Health Studies (TCHS) will engage with the American public through national surveys, an educational website, research findings and consumer guidance. This approach will enable TCHS to inform the everyday health care conversations of families, seniors, workers and employers, with a focus on bringing clear understanding and confidence to complex health coverage decisions and personal health and wellness.
“We base our research on the premise that there is no such thing as an ‘average American,’ and that people in every demographic should be confident in their financial future,” said Collinson. “The Transamerica Center for Health Studies offers a new and innovative way to reach and empower people as they make critical decisions that can affect both their health and wealth.”
Officially launching today, TCHS will help consumers and businesses navigate the health care landscape. Hector De La Torre has been chosen to lead this new initiative as executive director because of his private and previous public sector experience. De La Torre was a state legislator in California from 2004‐ 2010, chairing the Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services and serving as a member of that Subcommittee and the Health Committee throughout his tenure. He was also Mayor and Councilmember in his hometown of South Gate. In these positions he played a leadership role on health care and advocating for consumers and businesses, including expanding access to doctors in underserved communities, consumer protections against retroactive cancellation of health insurance, and supporting facilities improvements at children’s hospitals.
“The Transamerica Center for Health Studies is dedicated to analyzing health care, educating consumers and employers, and providing guidance for their important health‐related choices,” said De La Torre. “We will always strive to provide information in the simplest terms so that consumers and employers are empowered to manage their health coverage and health and wellness decisions.”
TCRS and TCHS are divisions of the newly named and expanded Transamerica Institute, a nonprofit, private foundation dedicated to identifying, researching and educating the public about some of most relevant issues facing the American public today.
