Strengthening Retirement Savings in a Weak Economy captures workers' changing attitudes, expectations, and retirement preparations amid the Great Recession. In light of the economic downturn, many workers are less confident in their ability to retire than they were twelve months ago and many now expect to work longer and retire later. However, the vast majority of workers value 401(k) and other employee-funded retirement plans as an important benefit, and they are continuing to save. The research also illustrates differences between workers of small and large companies.
The research report is based on findings from the 10th Annual Transamerica Retirement Survey of more than 3,400 workers conducted between December 2008 and January 2009.
